It’s not recommended to hack the tiles of your BTO as it would void any warranty you have with HDB.
You can however, overlay on your existing tiles with the tile of your choice. It’s also a much cheaper alternative.
People usually get epoxy grouting because they want to avoid looking at ugly stained grouts and make it look seamless with their tiles.
But actually, Epoxy Grouting has many benefits other than just making the tiles look seamless.
1. Epoxy grouting is non-porous, meaning it is non-absorbent and will not trap dirt. Usually normal cement grout will absorb the water and make the colours uneven. Overtime it may lead to grout cracking and falling off.
2. Being non-porous, this means that any dirty water will not be trapped in the grout. This means that dirt will get washed away and is more hygienic. If you have young ones at home, this is definitely recommended as they often put hands in their mouth.
3. Another benefit of being non-porous is that if there’s any dirt on the floor, it can be easily wiped off without scrubbing the grout. Lower maintenance for everyone.
4. Even if you opted for coloured cement, the colours will fade over time. Epoxy grout colours are here to stay 🙂
